I wrote this letter to Obama’s campagin headquarters in response to his speech in Cushing, OK and his plans to expedite the southern half of the Keystone XL Pipeline in response to the non-reality based Republican crusade to blame Obama for gas prices:
Mr. President,
Don’t capitulate to bogus rhetoric that the President can change gas prices, especially by expediting the Keystone XL. It is shameful that the media is pandering to the lowest common denominator with this patently false message, and its your campaign’s job to respond with the truth and re-frame the issue as one of global energy insecurity and American leadership to a new paradigm. Don’t meet the opposition on their terms and bow needlessly to their absurd arguments. I`m embarrassed that the energy leader I campaigned for in 2008 is now standing in front of stacks of pipeline cheering all systems go. This is not how we will win the future for our nation and our planet, and it is certainly not how you will win the hearts of organizers like me to help you win the white house again in 2012. Take a hard look at what you are doing, Mr. President. Don’t be complicit in breeding energy ignorance among the American public- tell the truth about gas prices, expose the lies. Lead the way to true energy independence with a meaningful commitment to fuel efficiency, renewable energy, and an end to taxpayer giveaways to the world’s wealthiest companies. Your political legacy, and our future, depends on it.
Sincerely,
Gabriel DeRita
